GLASA is seeking volunteers for the 2010 National Junior Disability Championship.

Cindy Housner, Executive Director of GLASA, announced that the 2010 National Junior Disability Championship (NJDC) has been awarded to GLASA. NJDC will take place next summer on the North Shore, with venue locations ranging from Deerfield to Lake Forest.

The National Junior Disability Championships (NJDC) began in July of 1984 and consisted of only three events sanctioned by Wheelchair Sports, USA for wheelchair athlete’s ages seven to nineteen. Since that time, the NJDC have grown to include over 250 athletes with spinal injuries, cerebral palsy, visual impairments, amputations, limb deficiencies, and other congenital anomalies from all over the United States and several foreign countries. The age range for participation is now 7-21 years old. At each National Junior Disability Championships, competitions are held in Olympic-style events including track, field, pentathlon, swimming, archery, table tennis, 3-on-3 wheelchair basketball and weightlifting.

We, GLASA, are reaching out to the LFLB Running Club as the event will require volunteers to help coordinate the various competitions. While we welcome all people willing to volunteer, it is important that GLASA and NJDC identify and attract volunteers that have prior experience managing competitive track and field events -- hence GLASA's outreach effort to our club. For those club members interested in helping out with NJDC, the key positions available include : Track Coordinator, Pentathlon Coordinator, Field Coordinator, Competition Venue Coordinator, Hydration Coordinator, Stats-Results Coordinator, and others.
